West Coast rappers Outlawz are known primarily for their standoff with 2Pac. It was on 2Pac's Makaveli album that Outlawz first came to the greater tap community's observance, appearing on a few songs. In 1999 they were co-billed on the posthumous 2Pac record album Still I Rise, granting them even more than recognition and furthering their short-lived affiliation. It wasn't until former 2000, though, that they finally got the green light to acquittance their debut record album, Ride humour Us or Collide wit Us. Featuring a overlay that located 2Pac's persona in the foreground, along with numerous references to the dead person legend, this debut made the nigh of Outlawz's reputation for existence 2Pac's suppositious protégés.

Regrettably, the album didn't prove to be much of a success, and neither did the group's follow-up album a year later, Novakane, too released on the group's Outlaw Recordz label (distributed by Koch). While Outlawz no doubtfulness maintained 2Pac's West Coast thug/gangsta stylus, they alas were middling modal rappers in footing of skills and also often fell back on their 2Pac affiliation and descended into generic hood motifs. And it didn't assist that they weren't aligned with any of the West Coast's better producers. In fact, Outlawz weren't genuinely aligned with anyone on the West Coast -- not Snoop Dogg and his Dogghouse pack, nor the Bay Area picture centered about E-40 and Spice 1. Member Young Noble collaborated with Layzie Bone in 2006 for the album Punk Brothers, released by the Real Talk label. The label would release the Outlawz album Against All Oddz that same yr.

Hancock, Schneider take top honours at Jazz Awards ceremony

NEW YORK - Pianist Herbie Hancock was honoured as musician of the year at the Jazz Awards, just months after he took home the best album Grammy for "River: The Joni Letters," but the big winner was Maria Schneider, who won four trophies.

Schneider's big band CD "Sky Blue," which includes the Grammy-winning instrumental composition "Cerulean Skies," was chosen album of the year, besting other CDs like Hancock's Joni Mitchell tribute in voting among the more than 400 members of the Jazz Journalists Association.

"I just feel like Miss Piggy," Schneider joked to the audience as she thanked her orchestra at Wednesday's awards luncheon at the Jazz Standard club. She also won the awards for composer, arranger and large ensemble of the year.

Drummer Roy Haynes had a double win. His boxed set "A Life In Time: The Roy Haynes Story," which traces his storied career spanning almost 60 years, was chosen reissue/historical boxed set of the year.

"Wow, I beat Duke, Miles, Quincy, and Lionel," Haynes said, acknowledging the other nominees in the reissue category. "It's kind of hip."

Moments later, he was back on stage to pick up the award for drummer of the year.

"They've got some great drummers out there now. ... I never thought I would be even living this long while playing at 83 and winning these serious awards, but I love smelling the roses," he quipped.

The only other double-winner was Ornette Coleman for alto saxophone and small ensemble.

Pianist Marian McPartland, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday and continues to host her "Piano Jazz" show on NPR, was recognized with the award for Lifetime Achievement in Jazz.

And Hank Jones, who turns 90 next month, accepted the award for Pianist of the Year, and then remained on stage to perform in a duo with tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano. Their abbreviated set included the standard "Alone Together" and Lovano's "I'm All For You," based on the classic "Body and Soul," from their recent Blue Note recordings as well as a mix of "How High the Moon" and "Ornithology" on which Jones threw in some humorous quotes from "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

African-born guitarist Lionel Loueke, who is now touring with Hancock's band and recently released his major label debut "Karibu" on Blue Note, was chosen the Up & Coming Musician of the Year. Israeli Anat Cohen was a repeat winner in the clarinet category.

Percussionist Bobby Sanabria's "Big Band Urban Folktales" was honoured as Latin Jazz Album of the Year.

Other Jazz Awards winners included: Andy Bey (male singer), Abbey Lincoln (female singer), Terence Blanchard (trumpet), Wycliffe Gordon, (trombone), Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Jane Ira Bloom (soprano sax), James Carter (baritone sax), Bill Frisell (guitar), Christian McBride (bass), Steve Swallow (electric bass), violinist Regina Carter (stringed instrument), Candido Camero (percussion), and author Doug Ramsey (Jazz Journalism Lifetime Achievement).

Angelina Jolie - Jolie Didnt Want To Love Pitt

Hollywood actress ANGELINA JOLIE didn't want to fall in love with another actor after two failed marriages - she was looking for love with an aid worker.

The Tomb Raider star was adamant never to date anyone on the Hollywood party circuit after her marriages to Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller failed.

But Jolie fell for Pitt - after her dreams of finding Mr Average faded.

She tells the July edition of Vanity Fair, "After my last divorce, I said I was absolutely going to marry somebody in another field, an aid worker or something.

"Then I met Brad, everything I wasn't looking for, but the best man, the best father I could possibly wish for, you know?

"I don't see him as an actor. I see him very much as a dad, as somebody who loves travel and architecture more than being in movies."

Bon Iver, For Emma Forever Ago

'Getting it together' in the country has long been the prerogative of musicians. Back in the mists of time Bob Dylan did it, Traffic boogied on the lawn of their cottage and Led Zeppelin went off to Wales to get the whiff of Bron-Yr-Aur up their nostrils. It also proved to be something of a creative restorative for Justin Vernon, now trading under the name Bon Iver (a bastardised version of Bon Hiver, French for 'good winter') who retreated to a log cabin in Wisconsin after the break-up of his band, DeYarmond Edison in 2006.

Originally self-released in 2007, For Emma, Forever Ago, became a short-run sell out with the buzz spreading like wildfire. It's easy to understand why. Acoustic-based songs are presented with a subtle though austere back-to-basics ambience, with a voice moving between a John Martyn-like tight-lipped mumble through to expressive and precocious declamations that wouldn’t sound out of place on an album by Prince or Antony and the Johnsons.

Not surprisingly for music that was formed and shaped by three months in a Wisconsin landscape gripped by winter, the prevalent mood is sombre and even spiritual in places, encoded into a series of oblique lyrics that read on the page like terse poetry. Blindside talks of human contact melting the metaphorical and literal ice; the heartbeat throbbing of Lump Sum holds back judgement until things get warm; For Emma sees ''death on a sunny snow'' and the simple meditation of Re:Stacks laments love frozen in the ground.

The sensitive production is a text-book case in getting the maximum from the most minimal materials. In the reflective pauses between chorus and verse of the opening track Flume, there are tiny sparkling harmonics frostily twinkling so briefly you might miss them in amongst ghostly rattles of feedback that form the harmonic spine of the piece – just one of many hair-raising, glorious moments. The strength of this set is founded on the unflinching clarity of a musical vision that transcends styles to create something utterly enthralling from start to finish.
